Attached to Garneau Pub, this Pizza place has been a long time favorite of mine and my family. While my mother was a poor student at the U of A some thirty years ago, she used to go here for a celebratory pizza once in a while. I believe it has been owned and operated by two brothers for at least these last three decades; it has remained seemingly unchanged all these years and is time stamped in my memory growing up. We used to come here and gather with my extended family to celebrate certain events or just to enjoy each other's company and some pizza. I think its central location, inexpensive menu, great pizza, large amount of seating, and also that it is rarely busy, were all factors that contributed to our increasing fondness for the establishment.

Food: Unfortunately, I cannot be a very good judge of most of the menu. All I have ever ordered here is pizza so I will have to base my rating mostly on that. I will say that it is unequivocally my favorite pizza, ever. It has always been consistent. The crust is browned just slightly, and the dough seems to be fluffed a bit so the crust is not dense but light and crunchy; but not thin. The sauce is balanced, and the toppings and cheese are great. It's not greasy pizza. I don't know if I'm doing a good job of describing this. Maybe it's only good because I've grown up loving it. I would say it is worth a try. The rest of the menu, I can't speak to.

Atmosphere: The place has had the same furnishings for a very long time, but it is always clean and well maintained. I never see it busy in the restaurant, which in a way is a plus because I know I can always go there and have a comfortable table and service right away.

Service: The service is typically friendly and efficient. It's not really a focal point of the place but I have never had poor service here. I will however, include as a special note one elevating night. We came here a couple years ago spontaneously after my sister completed her convocation at the U of A. My whole family exuberantly trotted through the door ready to party and one of the owners seemed touched we chose his pizza place as our spot to celebrate this special occassion. He bought us all drinks and joined in our celebration.

Overall, I would rate Plato's with 4 stars because I need to compensate for my own personal bias. To me, it is my favorite pizza place that I have spent many evenings with loved ones. To another, it may seem like a dated and avoidable restaurant attached to a pub. I think it is worth trying for anyone looking for a casual place to sit down and have a pizza.

The place was empty when we walked in, only the two owners were in the kitchen. We sat in a booth and grabbed a menu. The menu wasn't anything special.

We ordered the plato's pizza (I think that's what it was called).

When the pizza came out it was tiny! Probably smaller than a volleyball circumference. We ate it and it was delicious but we paid $21 for a tiny pizza. The cost to quantity ratio was way off.

We probably won't be back no matter how yummy the pizza was :(

the worst pizza i have ever had, $27 for hell in a box. No Godlyness was found, no crucified saviour to warn us of the perils of satan's pizza. I am 36 years old and have had better pizza 73, and i think that pizza 73 is the second worst pizza i have had, the third worst pizza, at other random pizza joints that are worse for humanity then aids, ring worm and leprosy.... 6 hour old pizza that was barely better!
Some pizza should be banned from the public realm and this is censorship i believe in. No man or woman should have to eat such uninspired sewage as this. No passion, no pleasure, no loving charm.

I am in awe that dough and cheese can be so poorly offered into the endless hunger of mankind, that in his desire he is repulsed by mediocrity.......... even when all attempts at "seemingly" less then had been matched, now a new low has been achieved. I pity the pizza joint that scores less then this, less then 1, less then all.

I like to try a place 3 times before releasing such atrocities such as this review..... but it is so hard to mess up pizza that i am miffed!

f you plato, you wingeing bag of puss circles!
